New York to Dallas by J.D. Robb

In this installment of the In Death series, Eve goes back to her hometown of Dallas to track down a violent pedophile named Isaac McQueen. Even put him away in jail many years ago, but now he's escaped and ready to get revenge.

I am a huge fan of this series and have enjoyed most of the books, however this one was a little too slow for me and it took awhile for me to get into it. Since it didn't take place in New York, there were just few scenes with the usual cast of characters such as Peabody and Summerset. As usual, I did enjoy the romantic interactions between Roarke and Eve, although there didn't seem to be too many of those also.

Oh, and the reveal about who Isaac's female partner was fell a little flat to me also. I felt that Eve was just a little too unattached to that when she should've been a bit more.

All in all, not a bad read, but definitely not one of my favorites in the series.

Series Sunday Review (6)-Treachery in Death

Series Sunday is a meme hosted by Literary Marie. My Series Sunday pick for this week comes from my favorite series, the In Death series by JD Robb:

This series just keeps getting better and better. This one has Eve trying to put away some corrupt cops, right in her own Cop Central, and you know she's not going to take too kindly to anyone making a mockery of the uniform. We get to see Eve in all her glory going toe-to-toe with the female lieutenant of the Illegals department, who has done many shady dealings in her run as lieutenant. Even worse, she is the daughter of the former police chief.

Unlike the Stephanie Plum series (which I started reading the same time I started reading the In Death series) where I've grown tired of the characters and their same old stupid shenanigans, I still enjoy reading about the In Death cast of characters, especially Peabody and McNab, and I still adore Eve and Roarke's relationship. The only parts that I've grown a bit tired of are anything involving Dr. Mira, whenever Eve goes to her for her psych profiles, it turns into a snooze fest. Thankfully those were few and far between in this one.

It is the most puzzling case Eve Dallas has ever faced: the founder of the computer gaming giant U-Play is found decapitated in his locked, private playroom. And now Eve and her team are about to enter the next level of police work, in a world where fantasy is the ultimate seduction-and the price of defeat is death...
Typical Eve Dallas thriller. I did enjoy it, however since I'm not into the fantasy games, parts of this went over my head a bit and I found it a tad too futuristic and unbelievable. I kinda liked how Eve had already figured out who the killer was but wouldn't tell us, and I was happy to know that I guessed right (although I hadn't figured out the motive.) While this won't be one of my favorites from the series, I definitely recommend it if you're an Eve Dallas fan.

My goal is to finish this and then at least 2 of the other paperbacks I got from the library before we head to the beach on Sunday (and while at the beach to read a ton of books that have been sitting patiently on Strawberry waiting to be read). Hopefully now that my two-week science course is done, I can squeeze in some more reading time.

Review-Kindred in Death

Another great Eve Dallas book! I can't say enough about this series, it just keeps getting better and better. Eve and Roarke are fascinating characters.

In this one, a police captain's daughter has been brutally raped and murdered, seemingly by the new college guy she has been dating, and of course Eve is on the case. I love the ones like these that aren't too sci-fi/techy. I definitely recommend this series, although it's best to start with the first one, Naked in Death, to get the full background on Eve and Roarke's relationship.

She woke just after five to the blessed scent of coffee. Opening one eye, she saw Roarke by the AutoChef, sipping a tall mug and watching her.
"I thought the timing worked," he said as he lifted a second mug and brought it to her.

Last week I finished:
zip, zilch, NADA. I barely did any reading at all last week. Three main reasons for this:

1. We're doing state testing in school. This is normally a time where I don't have to do a lot of work since on testing days I'm just walking around administering the test and then it's pretty much recess all the rest of the day (so no actual teaching) but I'm just so burnt out and tired by the time I come home, I didn't have time to read.

2. My father went back into the hospital again, so there's been a lot of back and forth between my place, my parent's place, and the hospital.

3. I've met the most amazing guy and we've been hanging out some this week (the only bright spot of the week!)

So that's why this week:
I'm STILL currently reading:
Kindred in Death by JD Robb. It's really good so far and I can't wait to find out who the killer is and why he did it. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY I'll be finished with it this weekend.

Up next:
I should probably start one of the books I signed up to read for the March Romance Reader's Challenge Group on goodreads.
